Doing business across borders means two legal systems at once. Trained in international and comparative law, we help you see both.

Scope
We help with
- Contracts and buy-sell agreements
- Starting, buying or selling a business
- Cross-border transactions (U.S. · Türkiye · Germany)
- Trademark and copyright
- Asset protection planning
- Escrow and paymaster services
- Working with counsel abroad on foreign-law questions
Two systems, one deal
A contract between a Chicago company and a supplier in Istanbul or Stuttgart has to work under two sets of rules: which law governs, which court or arbitration decides a dispute, and how a judgment will be enforced. We draft and review agreements with those questions answered at the start, not after something goes wrong.
Comparative and foreign-law questions
Ms. Lane earned her J.D. with a concentration in international and comparative law and grew up between Türkiye and Germany. When a matter turns on Turkish or German law, we work alongside licensed counsel in that country, explain how their system differs from the American one, and keep the two sides of the matter in step.
Protecting the business
From formation and ownership agreements to trademarks, escrow arrangements and asset protection, we help owners put the structure in place that lets the business grow without avoidable risk.
Common questions
Which law applies to an international contract?
Usually the law the parties choose in the contract. Without a clear choice, the answer depends on conflict-of-law rules and, for sales of goods, sometimes on the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Choosing deliberately avoids that uncertainty.
Can you advise on Turkish or German law?
We advise on U.S. law and work together with licensed counsel in Türkiye or Germany on questions of their law, coordinating both sides so that you have one clear picture.
Do I need a U.S. company to do business here?
Not always. It depends on what you sell, where and how often, and on tax and liability questions. We look at the plan and recommend the simplest structure that fits it.
